SIT apprehends Assam-based drug kingpin

ITANAGAR, Mar 04: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has arrested two people following the recovery of contraband items including heroin weighing 269 gm worth Rs 53 lakh.

The SIT sleuths also recovered an amount Rs 5.4 lakh, 569 Yuan in Chinese currency, a currency counting machine, a laptop, four phones, a DVR connected to three CCTVs in the house they were staying and a Hyundai I20 car bearing Assam registration number, police said here on Thursday.

Acting on intelligence inputs, the SIT arrested Jiten Biswas and one of his accomplishes, after tracking them over two weeks.

Biwas (33) and Uttam Nath (27) were apprehended from Kimin Circle on March 3 and are under police custody for six days. The former is wanted by many district police of Assam and units of Arunachal Pradesh as he is involved in two more cases registered in both states.

Both accused are from Assam. While Biswas is from Parwatipur village in Lakhimpur district, Nath is from Jajapur Anizara Para in Biswanath district.

SP SIT Rohit Rajbir Singh said the team hopes that the arrest of the two would keep the heroin trafficking between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh in check.

“This is one of the biggest achievements of the state police and lot of hard work was put in by the SIT team”, he added.

He said that SIT has always tried to work in the field of drug management as it is one of the greatest challenges the state is facing currently.
