Run for Unity marks Patel’s birthday

ITANAGAR, Nov 01: Mini marathons titled ‘Run for Unity’ were organized at several places of the state to mark the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) celebrations on Sunday.

The day is also celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first deputy Prime Minister and home minister of India and the man who played a major role in the political integration of India.

At Roing, the headquarters of Lower Dibang Valley district, the mini marathon was flagged off by ZPM Komji Linggi from general ground.

The programme organized by the department of sports and youth affairs in collaboration with district administration witnessed the participation of a large number of officers, officials, public and students.

Khonsa West MLA Chakat Aboh flagged-off the Run for Unity at Khonsa, the district headquarters of Tirap district.

More than 100 students and the public of the township actively participated in the event.

Later, the MLA along with DDSE Hortum Loyi and EAC Hakresha Kri gave away the prizes to the winners.

The Tezu unit of Field Outreach Bureau, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting also observed the “National Unity Day” to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel at Panbari village in Lohit district.

A public meeting was also organized on the day, during which Nripen Das, a senior citizen briefed, the gathering on the life and contributions of Sardar Patel towards the nation.

Earlier, P Sonowal, the head of office, FOB, Tezu apprised the gathering on the objective of organizing the programme.

A quiz competition was alsos organized to mark the daylong celebrations.
