People advised not to avail internet service from Starlink

ITANAGAR, Nov 29: The union department of telecommunication (DoT) has urged upon the people not to subscribe satellite based internet service from Starlink, a service provider, saying that the company has not obtained any license or authorization from the department.

“It has come to notice that M/s Starlink has started pre-selling and booking of the satellite based internet services in India which is also evident from the company’s website wherein, satellite based internet services can be booked by users in Indian territory,” the department said in a statement on Monday.

“For rendering satellite based services in India, requisite license(s) from Department of Telecommunications, are required. It is hereby informed to the public at large that the said company has not obtained any license or authorization for rendering satellite based internet services that are being booked on their website. Accordingly, the government has asked the company to comply with the Indian regulatory framework for rendering the satellite based communication services and refrain from booking and rendering the satellite internet services in the country with immediate effect,” it added.
