NERIST conducts training on fruit harvesting

ITANAGAR, Dec 28: With the aim to popularize the gender friendly ergonomically developed horticultural fruit harvesting ladder, back pack for load carrying in Sherpa mode and maize sheller, the department of Agricultural Engineering at North East Regional Institute of Science & Technology (NERIST) in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra of East Kameng district, organised a demonstration programme at Pochung and New Sopung village under Banna in the district on December 27 and 28 last.

About 24 persons participated in the demonstration which was sponsored by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) through AICRP on ESA, NERIST Centre.

Junior Project officer S Chhetry highlighted the urge of ergonomic improved hand tools and equipment that are feasible in the region. He also demonstrated the gender friendly ergonomically developed horticultural fruit harvesting ladder, back pack for load carrying in Sherpa mode and maize sheller.

“We are very thankful to W Purnima Devi, SMS (Horticulture), H Ganga SMS (Community Science), P P Tripathi SMS (Plant Protection) KVK East Kameng and P Taku, BTM, ATMA East Kameng for their help in executing the programme,” Chhetry said in his deliberation.

“We are very grateful to K Tiri, District Agriculture Officer, for his immense support and special thanks to Meje Degio (ZPM) and K Yame (GPM),” he added.

The farmers appreciated the gender friendly developed ladder which increases the plucking rate and reduces the fruit damage and accidents, a press release informed here on Tuesday.
