Bijli Mahotsav finale concludes with call for power conservation

NAMSAI, Jul 30: Namsai, one of the two districts selected for the celebration of the grand finale of ‘Bijli Mahotsav’ in the state, concluded the programme on Saturday in a befitting manner.

Prior to the commencement of the central programme, a local event was held at the DC’s conference hall, here.

Speaking on the occasion ZPC Nang Urmila Mancheykhun said that electricity was essential for day-to-day activities and survival without electricity was unfathomable. She also highlighted how the power sector in the district has progressed over the years.

Lamenting the importance of renewable energy, she encouraged the public to practise the righteous act of energy conservation by putting off lights, electronics and all such appliances when not in use.

She expressed her elation on Namsai being chosen as one of the venues for the grand finale celebration and lauded the organising departments for the successful conduct of all three events in the district.

Namsai DC C R Khampa informed that in total two Bijli Mahotsavs under Ujjwal Bharat, and Ujjwal Bhavishya – Power @ 2047 were organised in the district, exuberantly.

The celebrations were organised in two locations – Namsai and Chongkham.

“It is a privilege for Namsai district to be chosen as one of the only two districts in the for the celebration of the grand finale of Bijli Mahotsav”, the DC said and envisioned carrying forward the objective of the national drive and apprised that areas requiring improvements such as low voltage, frequent power cuts, the setting up of a new line in few areas are being addressed to in priority and urged the departments to efficiently operate with regard to power distribution and maintenance of proper electrification and upgradation.

He urged all to create awareness amongst rural masses on proper usage of power and to avail the service of various Central and State sponsored schemes under the power sector.

As part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, to celebrate 75 years of India’s independence, the Ministry of Power and New & Renewable Energy organised ‘Bijli Mahotsav’ across all districts of the country under the umbrella of Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya – Power @ 2047 through active public participation and driven by the collaboration of the state and the central governments.

Key achievements made in the power sector in the last eigth years were highlighted through these events.

The event kick-started on July 25 across various districts in the country. Over the last few days, more than 1500+ events and activities were organized at the district level in coordination with district administration and were attended by union ministers, MPs, MLAs and state ministers among other dignitaries in large numbers.

The grand finale of Bijli Mahotsav was organised on Saturday.

At Dirang: The event here on Saturday and was graced by local MLA Phurpa Tsering accompanied by DC, ADC, ZPMs among others.

Nukkad Nataks on two themes ‘Electrical Safety’ by the KV School and ‘Energy Conservation’ by GHSS Dirang were presented on the occasion.

Various CPSUs including, PGCIL, REC, NTPC, SECI and MnRe achievements were shown through films followed by brief presentations on the achievements of PM flagship schemes in the district.

Tsering while addressing the occasion said, “Our state has huge hydropower potential and largest hydropower projects – 2880 MW Dibang project is being constructed in the state which will uplift the socio-economic of the region.

At Pasighat: The grand finale of the event was also celebrated here, as Pasighat and Namsai from the state were among the 100 cities of the country to be part of the national celebration event.

PMC Chief Councillor Okiam Moyong Borang, DC Tayi Taggu, SP Sumit Kumar Jha and others from Pasighat, Mebo and Ruksin sub-divisions availing DDUGJY, SAUBHAGYA, Kusum Schemes, officials & staff of power department and APEDA, attended the event.

Project Officer of APEDA, East Siang Kape Badak, said that the weeklong Bijli Mahotsav celebration has been successfully completed in the district by conducting various activities with the active participation of the citizens and students and has helped create awareness of beneficiary schemes under the power sector, consumer awareness on electricity and helped the people know the giant strides made in the power sector in the country in the recent years.

Earlier, EE of Pasighat electrical division, Tarik Mize extended his gratitude to all the stakeholders for the successful celebration of the event in the district. (DIPROs)
