Nagaland fought to attain statehood: Gao

ITANAGAR, Dec 01: The state unit of BJP on Thursday celebrated the 60th Statehood Day of Nagaland under the aegis of Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat, here.

The people of Nagaland who are residing in the Capital Region including, Rano Top, Chairman Naga Society Arunachal, Rev Ayang Sor Principal NLBC and others attended the program and were felicitated with memento on the occasion.

Lok Sabha MP Tapir Gao speaking on the occasion said that Nagaland is the state of revolutionary who fought for the statehood day for a long time.

He highlighted the revolution and evolution of Nagaland and said that Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh are lucky enough to get statehood at one go but Nagaland had to fight for the identity.

During the World War II, nearly 3000 Nagas died in the fighting between the British Empire and Japanese troops.

Gao added that due to mistakes of Jaharlal Nehru on boundary issue, today the people of northeast are facing problems, as they were divided by Nehru policy.

The MP from Eastern Parliamentary constituency said that religion is by choice but preservation of identity is more important. He requested all to preserve their own culture.

Gao added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah are working hard to keep peace in north east.

Party’s state president Biyuram Wahge said that Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat is mission mode programe of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and National President J P Nadda.

He added that such program is being organised all over the country and assured to support such programe in future too.

Wahge added that the programme aimed to promote mutual understanding and increase interaction between the people of different states through celebration of statehood day to maintain and strengthen the fabric of traditionally existing emotional bonds between the people of the country.
