BJP’s ‘Salute to Armed Forces’ to rekindle Aye mere vatanke logon spirit

ITANAGAR, Dec 30: A team of leaders of ruling Bharaitya Janata Paty (BJP) led by vice president Tarh Tarak would conduct a unique programme, christened ‘Salute to Armed Forces’, to visit border post/areas of the state during January 3 to 20 next to pay respect to the armed forces guarding the border to ensure safety of the countrymen.

The first such tour in this state, sharing 1,129-km border with China’s Tibet Autonomous Region of total 3,488-km border shared by India, would tour  border post/areas as mentioned district and date-wise: Huri, Sarli & Damin (Kurung Kumey) – Jan 4; Anini – Jan 7 and Burni & Etalin (Dibang Valley) – Jan 8; Hayuliang & Walong  – Jan 9 and Kibitho & Chagalgam (Anjaw) – Jan 10; Mechuka– Jan 17 and Lamang & Dumla (Shi Yomi)) – Jan 18; Nacho– Jan 19 (Upper Subansiri).

The tour conclude after touring Lemiking, Maza, Taksing & Tama Chung Chung to pay respect to greatest hero of Indo-China War Shera Thapa of 2 JAK Rifle havildar Shere Thapa, who hiding in Tama Chung Chung ridge, had killed 155 Chinese jawans on 18.10.1962 during Indo-China War.

This border post trip reminds monumental song of Nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar:  Aye mere vatanke logon, tum khooblaga lo naara, ye shubh din hai ham sab ka, lahara lo tiranga pyaara, par mat bhoolo seema par, veeron ne hai praan ganvaaye kuch yaad unheinbhi kar lo…’(Oh people of my country remember and salute the jawans who lost their lives in protecting our borders).

The song sung by her at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi on January 26, 1963 in honour of soldiers who had lost their lives fighting in 1962 India-China War that had moved first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru so much that with tears rolling down his cheeks he had embraced Lataji saying:  ‘Latatumne aaj mujhe rula diya‘ (Lata, you made me cry today).
