NAMSAI, May 30: The closing ceremony of more than 3 months Integrated Health Screening Campaign (IHSC) in Namsai district, which started on February 13 this year from Chongkham Block, was held at Mahadevpur on Monday.
The event was graced by the Namsai DC C R Khampa.
Project Director of State AIDS Control Society Dr R Rina, Joint DHS, District Medical Officer Dr (Mrs) Nang Soreya Namchoom, EAC Lekang N L Naam, ZPM Lower Lekang Jugesh Taye, ZPM Upper Lekang Bijoy Neog, District TB Officer-cum-District AIDS Control Officer Dr P Tala, CO Lempi Rallen, GPCs, GPMs attended the event.
The DC lauded the hard work and dedication of the health department and thanked the NACO and SACS for this very important campaign to diagnose and treat PLHIV and Hepatitis B & C cases in the district due to high number of IDUs.
He informed about the total number of HIV, Hep B & C cases detected and asked the public and PRI members to identify the HRG individuals and bring them for testing in any of the health facility right from sub-centre level to district hospital.
He said that as there is treatment available in the district itself for these diseases one should not stigmatize such people and help them in getting tested and starting treatment if found positive.
The DC thanked the PRI members for their continued support as responsible stakeholders in such activities. He congratulated the health department for completing the campaign on a very positive note.
SACS project director Dr Rina informed the gathering about the conceptualization of the IHSC and then the rolling out of the ambitious plan. He chronologically described the turn of events and how this seemingly micro campaign captured the imagination of the entire nation which is now being referred to as “The Namsai Model”.
He informed everybody present that this Campaign was the first of its kind in the entire country and that other States are following suit and many are presently studying the model for replication. (DIPRO)
