Drug peddler nabbed red handed

NAMSAI, July 10: Namsai Police, acting on a tip of from reliable sources, seized one gram of orange-yellowish powder packed in a shop case, suspected to be heroine, Rs 1,100 and nabbed suspected drug peddler Mridul Buragohain from 2 Mile area near Forest Check Gate here on Monday.

The peddler was coming from Kakopather in Assam’s Tinsukia district to deliver some contraband substance and district anti-drug squad led by Namsai SDPO DSP Chera Saban along with ASI S Kumar and ready party arrested him, local police station sources said.

The expert earlier tracked movement of the peddler with the help of PHQ technical team to achieve success as the district police have been maintaining high vigilance constantly to thwart supply of drugs and other contraband substance. A case under NDPS Act, 1985 has been registered and further investigation launched is on, adds the sources added.

While appreciating the police, a conscious citizen said: “law enforcement agency along with citizens should unite to fight against drug menace in the district. The rampant drug smuggling has been receding gradually due to vigilance of the police to erase the tag of drug inflicted district.”
