Training on value addition of medicinal & aromatic plants held

PASIGHAT, Feb 06: The College of Agriculture (CoA) here under All India Coordinated Research Project on Medicinal, Aromatic Plants and Betelvine (AICRP-MAP&B) conducted a week-long training on “cultivation, post-harvest management and value addition of medicinal and aromatic plants” and  distribution at Kiyit village under Mebo sub-division of East Siang district  recently.

Coordinator Dr. Naorem Yaiphabi Chanu addressing 50 participants (farmers, women SHG members and rural youth) stressed on cultivation practices, insect pests management measures, more use of bio-pesticides. Dr. Helen Soibam spoke on importance of post harvest management and demonstrated preparation of value added products viz. scented candles, soaps etc. while Dr. Nancy Lego educated them on conservation, good collection practices and improved medicinal and aromatic plant varieties.

Pasighat Centre AICRP-MAP&B nodal officer Dr. T.S Mehra shared knowledge on rising importance of essential oil in the NE region while knapsack sprayers were distributed to all participants during valedictory function, attended by CoA dean Dr. A.K. Tripathi. (DIPRO)
