PWD JE caught while demanding bribe to renew license: SIC

ITANAGAR, Feb 12: Arunachal Pradesh Police special investigation cell (SIC) vigilance, on receipt of a written complaint, on Monday arrested a GoAP official for demanding and accepting bribes from the public.

Identified as junior engineer (JE) CK Singh, 58, posted in PWD (Western zone) chief engineer office here, was caught red handed while demanding Rs. 50,000 from a person, SIC SP Anand Mittal disclosed, adding complainant Nabam Tangu had visited CE office and approached the JE for renewal of his firm license when he demanded for Rs. 50, 000.

Based on Tangu’s complaint  regarding demand of bribe by a JE, a SIC team  was formed to act accordingly, Mittal said and added Singh is in police custody now. An FIR was registered under Prevention of Corruption Act and the investigation launched, he said.

Since the accused is a GoAP employee, he could be sentenced for rigorous imprisonment of 10 years, the SP said and urged the masses to inform the SIC, if any GoAP employee demands bribe for any official works.
