NAHARLAGUN, Mar 07: Former Itanagar lawmaker and state BJP President Kipa Babu, known for implementing many trendsetter projects during his tenure 2009-14, is seeking ticket this year from the same seat, represented now by Techi Kaso.

Babu, who had contested thrice and lost twice, in an interview to Nip Jyoti Kalita, said that realizing the pressing requirements of “I was instrumental in developing cremation and burial ground in sinking zone area along Nirjuli-Banderdea highway, alternate road to Itanagar via Papu Nallah, moved resolution in assembly to construct an airport and facilitate railway connectivity to Itanagar, which are visible now yielding immense benefits to one and all”.

However, present Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso since 2009, who claimed to have transformed Itanagar Capital Complex (ICC) with massive infrastructures, road projects, schools for every nook and corner of the twin cities by spending his Local Area Development Fund (LADF) during last 15 years while hundreds of crores of fund have been sanctioned for numerous projects whose works would start soon, has also sought BJP ticket.

Kaso was elected in 2009 and 2014 as a Congress candidate and as a Janata Dal (United) nominee in 2019, but had joined the ruling BJP in August 2022.  However, Taarh   Nachung, a prominent BJP leader, has said that the transformation of capital schools, roads and infrastructures are all due to tireless service of present MLA Kaso and if the party denies BJP ticket to him it will be a great loss for the party as with or without ticket people unconditionally support him as their popular leader for improving law and order situation for betterment of ICC.

BJP presidents Biyurma Wahge (state) and J P Nadda (national), particularly Chief Minister Pema Khandu having a crucial role in the process, would undoubtedly face tough changes in finalizing candidates for 60 assembly seats of this state for 2024 assembly elections.
