ITANAGAR, Apr 03: In a tragic incident, three persons from Kerala – a married couple and their teacher friend – were found dead in a hotel room in Lower Subansiri district HQs Ziro on Tuesday, SP Keni Bagra said, adding that said that the three, prima facie, appeared to have been bled to death from cuts on their wrists and that a note was recovered from their hotel room.

The couple was identified as Naveen Thomas (35) and his wife Devi B (35), who were Ayurveda doctors from Kottayam district, while third person identified as Arya B Nair (29), a school teacher and resident of Thiruvananthapuram, SP Bagra said, adding that a verbal report was received at Ziro police station 10.30 am on Tuesday that Thomas had checked in the hotel with his wife and a friend on March 28 and had been sharing a room since then.

But on April 1, the hotel staff reportedly did not see any of them. On Tuesday morning, the staff tried to check on them. They first made a call to the room but there was no answer. Then on suspicion, they went to the room, but there was no response to knocks. When they banged on the door, the lock broke and they found them dead there, following which they called the local police station at around 10.30 am,” the SP said.

On receipt of the information the police team reached place of occurrence and found three of them dead in the room in different places.

The male deceased Thomas was found lying dead in the bathroom with cut mark on his left wrist and Devi B, apparently his wife, found lying dead on the floor with cut marks on her neck as well as cut marks on the right side of her wrist. The other lady B Nair was found lying dead on the bed with her wrist cut with a sharp blade, the SP informed.

“The note recovered from their room had a phone number with instructions to call it. When police called the number, it connected them to the couple’s family. Their activities here are not known as they had come as tourists. What they were doing here is a matter of investigation,” Bagra said.

The district police team with help of forensic experts from Banderdewa PTC conducted search and seized all available evidences from the room. The post mortem is scheduled on Thursday, he said, adding three unnatural death cases u/s 174 CrPC have been registered and endorsed to SI J. Doye for investigation.

During initial investigation, it was found that there is missing FIR registered against deceased Lt B Nair at Trivandrum. However, further investigation from all angles has been launched, the SP added.

A Thiruvananthapuram report adds: On March 27, relatives of Arya, whose marriage was reportedly fixed for next month, filed a missing complaint at a Thiruvananthapuram PS. Looking into that complaint, Kerala Police said they found that Arya had flown to Guwahati with Naveen and Devi before all three of them ended up in Arunachal Pradesh.

In Kerala, noted cultural activist Soorya Krishnamoorthy, on Tuesday afternoon said that Devi’s father Balan Madhavan, a travel photographer, told him that the deceased had “fallen prey to black magic”.

Krishnamoorthy, a relative of Madhavan, said, “all three of the deceased were “well educated and well settled. I have spoken to Madhavan, who told me that they (the deceased) have fallen victim to black magic… It is a tragedy that even well educated persons have fallen prey to black magic.”

Meenadom panchayat president Monichan Kizhakkedam in Kottayam, who is familiar with the family, said the couple had got married 13 years ago and had stopped their Ayurveda practice a year ago and started online trading.

“Now, we have come to know that the couple was into black magic… Naveen did not interact much with people in the locality though the couple was living with his parents – both retired Govt employees. For a short period, Devi had taught German language at a private school in Thiruvananthapuram, where she befriended Arya,” Monichan said, adding that two of Naveen’s relatives have on Tuesday had left for Arunachal Pradesh.
