8th AsianTaekwondo Championship | Arunachalee Rupa Bayor to represent India

NAHARLAGUN, May 06: Arunachal Pradesh taekwondo star Rupa Bayor, hailing from Sipi village, near Daporijo in Upper Subansiri district, has been chosen to represent India to showcase her prowess in Taekwondo at the prestigious two-day 8th  Asian Taekwondo Poomsae Championship scheduled at Vietnam from May 14.

Bayor, in her final phases of training for the Asian event, has etched her name in excellence. She ranks 13th in global ranking and 4th in Asia in Poomsae domain.

This Championship is G4 event endorsed by World Taekwondo. It operates as a platform for elite athletes to showcase their skills. These athletes compete at the pinnacle of the competition. This championship draws contenders from across the entire continent. It guarantees fierce rivalry and exhilarating displays of martial arts.

Bayor, despite losing her father at a very young age, begun her journey under the care of her mother with ‘never say die spirit’. Her journey to this esteemed event symbolizes passion resilience and a string of significant feats. She began strenuous training at Indo-Korean Taekwondo Academy in Mumbai and refined her talent. She was under the guidance of Abhishek Dubey, a renowned international coach and enjoys an affiliation with International Olympic Committee.

Bayor has remarkable records, all recognized by World Taekwondo, in her kitty. In 2023, Bayor won a gold medal in senior individual poomsae at WT President Cup-Europe-WT G2  in Turkey, two silver medals in senior individual poomsae (U-30) at Oceania Open-WT G2 and WT President Cup-Oceania G2 in Australia same year. She had clinched a bronze medal at Australia Open-WT G2 to add to her accomplishments..

Bayor initiated her climb towards worldwide acclaim that catapulted with a bronze medal at 8th Croatia Open Poomsae-WT G2 in 2022. Before this, she had won a silver medal at 13th South Asian Games-2019 in Nepal.

As a G4 ranking event sanctioned by World Taekwondo, this shows India’s power prowess in the international stage.
