Fight against drug menace on:SDPO | Capital Police arrest 16 drug peddlers, including 5 females

ITANAGAR, May 21: The Capital Police, in its continued fight against drug menace, have arrested 16 drug peddlers, including five females and registered a case against them during this year, Itanagar SDPO Kengo Dirchi said while briefing media persons in his office here on Tuesday.

The police have also seized around 500 grams of suspected heroin and more than 1000 grams of cannabis from their possession, he said, adding that based information of an arrested drug peddler during interrogation, 78 other drug users have been taken into preventive detention, whose counseling was on.

Traps were laid at different locations of the city based on information, he said, adding five drug users were held on Tuesday morning from IG Park for preventive detention.

The Capital Police have been using humanity and legal approaches to deal with drug peddlers and users, he cautioned drug users and peddlers to surrender before the police or face strict legal action. But, if they surrender, police would assist them to free from addiction, he assured.

The SDPO made a fervent plea to the masses, particularly students’ unions and NGOs to inform police if any suspicious activities are noticed within the Capital Complex.
