Peddler with drug nabbed from Tarajuli under Operation Dawn

NAHARLAGUN, May 27: In ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) under Operation Dawn, a Banderdewa police station team, led by OC inspector Kipa Hamak nd SI Koj Tada, acting on information about a movement of drug peddler along Assam border, apprehended an individual from Tarajuli area under Banderdewa PS on Monday.

The police team recovered commercial quantity of contraband drug suspected to be heroin, weighing approximately 22.06 gm from his possession. He has been identified as Diljan Pegu, 23, resident of Dhagoria village No. 2 under PO/PS Bhipuria of Assam’s Lakhimpur district.

A criminal case under relevant provisions of NDPS Act has been registered at Banderdewa Police Station.  The Operation Dawn was carried out under close supervision of Naharlagun SP Mihin Gambo and SDPO Paul Jerang, according to an official release.

AONS adds: It may be recalled here that the Jully Valley Youth Welfare Association had caught one Abdul Rabique of Assam’s Lakhimpur district, suspected to be a drug dealer, with drugs suspected to be brown sugar, near Pachin River quarry mining area on Saturday night and handed over them to Itanagar Police.

This calls for proactive role of cops deployed at the check gates besides time to time patrolling of porous entry points through the river to prevent entry of such drug peddlers.
