SC judge & Gauhati HC chief justice attend APSLSA legal awareness prog

ITANAGAR, May 28: The Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA) in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and district administration of Namsai and  Lohit conducted daylong ‘Mega legal awareness programme’ in Namsai on May 25 last, an APSLSA release said on Tuesday.

The event, under the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), was attended by Supreme Court of India judge Mr. Justice B.R. Gavai, Gauhati Hight Court chief justice Vijay Bishnoi also APSLSA patron-in-chief, Gauhati High Court judge Mr. Justice Suman Shyam, also APSLSA executive chairman.

The initiative aimed at bringing mass legal awareness to ensure that citizens are well-informed about their legal rights and entitlement. Large number of people, including goan burahs/burishs, members of self-help groups, NGOs and stakeholders, who were also apprised of availability of free legal services.

The resource persons covered a wide range of topics, including role and function of legal services institutions provision of free and competent legal services, and various schemes mandated by the NALSA.

They also sensitized participants on fundamental rights; legal services Mobile App; NALSA helpline number (15100); NDPS Act; Arunachal Pradesh Recording of Marriage Act, 2008; POCSO Act, 2012; Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2005; Domestic Violence Act, 2005; Arunachal Pradesh Victim Compensation Scheme, 2011; POSH Act and various Govt Welfare schemes, the release added.
