NEW DELHI | Jun 29 | The Election Commission of India (ECI) today announced schedule for bye-elections to fill casual vacancies in Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland assemblies.
After taking into consideration various factors like local festivals, electoral rolls, weather conditions etc, the ECI decided to hold bye-elections to Pakke Kessang (ST) AC and notified issue of notification on 05.07.17; last date for making nominations on 12.07.17; scrutiny of nominations on 13.07.17; last date for withdrawal of candidatures on 15.07.17; date of polls on 29.07.17; counting of votes on 03.08.17 and completion of the process by 05.08.17.
The polling to be conducted during 7 am to 4 pm by using EVMs for which adequate numbers of EVMs have been made available and all steps have been taken to ensure that the polls are conducted smoothly with the help of these machines.
The by-poll has been necessitated after rival candidate Atum Welly had challenged the unopposed election of winner Kameng Dolo in Gauhati High Court.
With the notification of by-poll, the model code of conduct has come into force. (PIB)
