Christmas Football Trophy 2017 starts

ROING | Nov 27 |  The GoAP beliefs in equal and parallel growth of sate’s all communities and religions, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein told in his inaugural address to Christmas Football Trophy 2017 at Rayang Village near here today.

Citing youths as the future and strength of the society, he exhorted them to come forward and shoulder the responsibilities in fighting against the issues confronting the society. Pointing out that today’s youths are more equipped with modern technology, he exhorted them to be committed, decisive and come forward to discuss social & developmental issues with the senior leaders.

Referring to drug hazard prevailing  in almost all eastern districts like Tirap, Changhlang, Longding, Namsai, Lohit, Anjaw, Dibang and  Lower Dibang Valley, he advocated concerted effort to tackle the menace by finding alternative source of livelihood for them.

Agriculture & allied sectors could boost state economy, he said, adding the people should take up activities under these sectors. He informed to call a three-day meeting to discuss suitability of agri-horticulture crops in various districts and to introduce cultivation of such crops as per the suitability index.

The state is passing is passing through a transitional period  in terms of connectivity but with completion of three major bridges – Bhupen Hazarika Bridge, Alubari Bridge and Lohit Bridge –  the connectivity in these belts has improved, he said and urged the people to take full benefit venturing into income generating activities.

The GoAP is committed to bring development in border areas at par with the foothills areas, which has been  developed well, he said, adding the GoAP had sent a proposal for Frontier Highway to the GoI.

Lauding the contribution of Christian Missionaries in education and social development, he called upon them to continue to maintain the tempo.

Responding to a memorandum submitted by Rayang Dolung Kebang, he assured to take up upgradation of Rayang middle school to secondary level besides water supply.

Rajya Sabha member Mukut Mithi announced to provide fund for building a rostrum in football ground here from his MPLAD Fund during 2018-19.

Planning & Investment and Personnel Parliamentary Secretary Chau Zingnu Namchoom exhorted the youths to give importance to games & sports along with their studies. Citing few examples of Arunachal boys earning names in renowned foreign football clubs, he exhorted them to refrain from drugs saying one can take up games & sports as a career. He and suggested to introduce commercial cash crops as an alternative for poppy cultivation to boost farmer’s economy.

While lauding the organizers, WRD and Art & Culture Parliamentary Secretary Gum Tayeng said that unlike the earlier days, parents should encourage their children to take part in games & sports to make living out of it, if one excels. She recalled her memories of learning under late Dugyon Lego, first Govt school teacher in NEFA and one of the first mission school teacher (1920-1947) in the area.

Highlighting aims of the tournament, organizing committee chairman Gagan Perying said that eight teams are taking part while Dibang Lohit Baptist Churches Association president T Millan, narrated history of Christmas celebration of the local Baptist church.
