ITANAGAR, Aug 12: The APCC today expressed its disappointment over recent statement of spiritual leader 14th Dalai Lama at Goa Institute of Management when he called former Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru as “self-centred” and alleged him for being responsible in parting India and Pakistan.
Although Dalai Lama expressed regret over his controversial comment, but APCC questioned: Tibetan spiritual leader calls names of Indian leader who sweated most to keep them safe from Chinese aggression, was the presentation of “Ae Hind Tujko Salam” sung by a Tibetan singer for India a joke?
India today is home for more than one lakh Tibetans of 70 scattered communities living in 37 settlements spread across India. Dalai Lama may have forgotten 60 long years of struggle of India to support Tibetan polity, its settlements, its enterprises and its religio-political structure, not only to flourish but made to transform and develop to be active part of the modern world, APCC vice president Minkir Lollen said in release.
India provided a beam of light and hope to Tibetans remaining in Chinese-dominated Tibet and in the neighbouring Chinese Provinces politically cut off from the Tibetan heart land. All these happened only because India has great leaders like Gandhi and Nehru who took the responsibility of social burden to shelter thousands of persecuted Tibetans then in 1959.
“Dalai Lama should know a spiritual leader like him is shouldering great expectation, hope and trust of millions on record and the same are watching his contribution towards the mankind. So, in such circumstance he should refrain from giving partial and controversial information to the students who are torch bearer of the nation, the release said.
His statement is uncalled amounting to interference in Indian politics and an insult to Nehru who offered asylum to Tibetan refugees in several states of India, Nepal and Bhutan and later which Dalai Lama set up a Govt in exile at Dharamsala in Himachal Pradesh.
APCC charged Dalai Lama to be politically motivated, like a disobedient son who hypocritically aims to approach PM Modi for his continuation in India. Being a foreigner, he should shun and refrain from interfering in internal and external affairs of India, the release added.
