Siang water level continues to rise

PASIGHAT, Sept 13: Water level of Siang River continues to rise following torrential rain in the region but yet to reach the danger level.

Siang River is flowing in full swing with water level recording 153.82 metre at 2 PM on Thursday afternoon and gradually increasing as recorded 153.93 metre at 6 PM, highest ever of the year but just below the  danger level of 153.9 6metre, WRD officials said, adding the water level is expected to rise further.

Flash flood had swelled up Siang River eroding the villages on the bank, washing away nine houses of Seram village that had prompted other residents to shift to safer places. Moreover, Borguli villagers under Mebo sub-division of East Siang district had built flood protection measures to protect the village and cultivable lands from erosion by the river.

However, district officials said that though there is no matter to panic but it   is advisable to always remain alert.
