ITANAGAR, Dec 05: Podi-Barbi, a harvest festival of Adi community, was celebrated with traditional fervor and gaiety at Solung-Mopin Ground here on Wednesday.
The celebration was organized by Podi- Barbi Celebration Committee Itanagar-2018. Hundreds of people comprising young and old wearing traditional attire participated in the day-long festival.
Attending the festival celebration as, State BJP vice president Tame Phassang, addressing the revelers as chief guest lauded the community for its rich culture and tradition and extended Podi Barbi greeting to them,
“One cannot find the zest of our rich culture and tradition in Google or any other sources but it has to be inherited from our ancestors,” Phassang said.
“I have spent my college days in Pasighat Jawahar Nehru College and since then I have a close association with Adi communities. What more attracted me is their practice to preserve their language. Young or old everyone greets and speak each other with their language which helps them to preserve their language,” Phssang asserted while making a fervent plea to other communities to follow suit.
While asking people to be united for a strong and developed society, he said that Adi community is one of the most intellectual societies in the state who could lead us in positive way. Moreover, my doors are always open for everyone irrespective of cast & creed to extend my all out support for every positive endeavor, he added.
RWD SE Getom Borang, speaking as special guest, stressed on preservation of culture and tradition. He exhorted the youths to uphold their traditions while moving simultaneously with modernity before extending greetings.
While elaborating on Podi Barbi mythology, Borang urged the gathering to maintain the sanctity of every festival.
Acknowledging Adi community as one of the intellectual and developed communities of the state, Mechuka MLA PD Sona as special invitee exhorted the community leaders to be torch bearer for the others.
Beside colorful cultural programmes, ponung momen and community feast part of day-long celebration.
The festival, mainly celebrated by the Adis of Mechuka, Monigong and Tato in newly created Shi Yomi district, intends to extend gratitude to deities and Mother Nature for prosperous and surplus production of crops.
Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Bosiram Siram has also greeted the community on the festive occasion.
