CM urges people to help expedite Itanagar airport

HOLLONGI, Dec 30: No one should play own political tanagar agenda on construction of Greenfield Itanagar Airport at Hollongi or compensation issue rather support its speedy construction, said Chief Minister Pema Khandu.

“We have already wasted more than 10 golden years or else the airport might have been built by now but change of site, litigation and other issues have delayed the ambitious project,” he said while replying to media persons on the sideline of foundation laying ceremony of 12th NDRF Bn HQs here on Saturday.

Airport issue is in final stage waiting for clearance of Union Finance Ministry. The local people should always adopt pro-development attitude, e said, adding the operatoinalisation of airport will change development process and fast track state development.

“The airport project has been pending since 1997 and much time has been wasted. We need to think how to give a new thrust to development process”, he said with conviction.

On clearance of the project by the Finance Ministry, land acquisition has to be finalised soon for Capital district administration acquire land, he said and exhorted the local people to cooperate with the DC in land acquisition process. He announced to set up a circle office at Hollongi to expedite the entire administrative process.

The report of the civil aviation ministry steering committee meeting of on the issue will be sent to PIB of Finance Ministry for approval of the project, he said and made a fervent appeal not to put any hurdle as its foundation stone will be laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in first week of January next.

The committee headed by Minister Nabam Rebia has discussed the issue with the local land owners and the rate fixed has been sent to GoI for finalisation and none should try to make any issue out of it. If someone make any unnecessary issue, it would have detrimental impact on the project”.

GoI project needs free land but there are very less land with the GoAP in the state rather most of the land are with communities or individuals and it is good that whatever compensation we are receiving we should honour in the greater interest of the state,” the CM reasoned.
