AAPSU welcomes GoI nod to bill to amend Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950

ITANAGAR, Jan 04: All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) welcomes the decision of Union Cabinet for approving Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2018 for certain amendments in the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950 to modify the list of the STs of Arunachal Pradesh.

The amendment if duly approved will be beneficial, especially to numerous indigenous tribes of Eastern districts of Arunachal Pradesh viz the Nocte, Tutsa, Tangsa, Wangcho etc who were till date classified under the vague and ambiguous terminology of “Any Other Naga Tribes”, AAPSUpresident Hawa Bagang  & GS Tobom Dai said in a release.

Such improper classification of these tribes was a historical blunder which resulted in numerous hardships and identity crisis for them. The AAPSU also  acknowledged efforts of MP Kiren Rijiju & Ninong Ering and all those for pursuing the GoI on the matter. The said bill will also correct the names of other tribes whose names were wrongly recorded in e earlier ST Order and facilitate their classification. Thus, the AAPSU has decided to strongly support the said amendment and requests members of both the houses of Parliament to ensure support to the Bill for its smooth passage.

It may be mentioned here that this was one of the long pending demands of  AAPSU for which it had submitted  numerous representations to Union Home Ministry besides a memorandum to President of India Dr. Ram Nath Kovind when he visited Arunachal Pradesh last.
