TENGAPANI, Feb 19: The Theravada Buddhist Community of Namsai district celebrated the Mai-Ko-Sumfai Festival with religious fervour and traditional gaiety on Tuesday.
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein accompanied by state BJP president Tapir Gao, Namsai MLA Zingnu Namchoom, DC Dr Tapashya Ragav and SP Ankit Singh took part in the ritual ceremony at Kongmukham in the morning.
Highlighting importance of Mai Ko Sum Fai festival celebration, Arunachal University of Studies Professor Pragyasila Bhikkhu termed it as a ritual ceremony held on the full moon day of Magha linked with offering of fire.
A stupa-like structure made up of firewood was built and consigned to flame as offering to Lord Buddha. (PRO)
