Act against Waii for hate speech, MMT urges ECI

ITANAGAR, Mar 30: The Monpa Mimang Tshokpa (MMT), apex body of Monpa community of Arunachal Pradesh, condemned in strongest terms recent statement of state Home Minster Kumar Waii to demean the pride and prestige of Monpa community.

MMT secretary (Admin) Kinchin Norbu, in a complaint letter to Chief Election Commissioner, said that Kumar during an election rally sought support of his Bameng Assembly constituency to become the CM to “crush the Monpas like a disposal glass and paper and throw it into the dust bin”. The video clip of his speech doing rounds in social media is in public domain.

Terming it very unfortunate to play with the sentiments of a community to create communal disharmony, the letter, a copy of which made available to the press, said “the Monpas are deeply hurt with such derogatory speech with communally hatred”.

While demanding public apology and immediate clarification, the MMT urged Election Commission of India to lake necessary steps as per law.

Similar complaint was lodged with state chief electoral officer by Bamang People’s Forum chairman Pirtam Dolo and state BJP executive member Dobing Sonam.
