ITANAGAR, Apr 16: Alleging ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of murdering democracy in Arunachal Pradesh by capturing EVMs, APCC president Takam Sanjoy produced photographic evidence before media persons on Monday to support his startling disclosure.
Claiming that INC polling agents of Pating and Cheri polling booths (PBs) under Nyobia circle of Nyapin Assembly seat, represented by sitting MLA-cum-Minister Bamang Felix in Kurung Kumey district, were kidnapped, tortured and physically assaulted for forcefully taking away EVMs of capturing the booths by blatant misuse of power by resorting to goondaism.
The EVMs after April 11 election were expected to reach assistant electoral registration officer (AERO) at Sangram, but Felix supporters took EVMs of six PBs, including of Nyokuriang, Taba, Nampe and Damin Town PBs of Kolorianag Assembly seat, to his Pating residence and kept whole night there without security and polling officers. The next day helicopter landed at Nyobia without any Election Commission of India (ECI) permission which is mandatory during election, claimed Sanjoy, flanked by general secretaries Chera Taya and Tamchi Tahar.
The helicopter with the EVMS flew to Koloriang with private individuals including former political adviser to CM Bamang Tago but was not allowed to land there for which it landed at Naharlagun helipad, he said, adding the other PBs.
Only 12 voters were allowed to vote before the EVMs were taken away in connivance with Kurumg Kumey district election officer-deputy commissioner, while state’s chief electoral officer (CEO) and ECI have overlooked complaints despite being lodged by the All India Congress Committee. Thus, he demanded repolling in all those PBs in spirit of democracy. If the ECI fails to respond, the INC workers will stage dharna in front of CEO office here while an AICC delegation will meet the chief election commissioner. The Congress will move the court if the ECI fails to budge then, he added.
The ruling BJP did not orchestrate any illegal activity during election as it is confident of winning comfortably, state BJP president Tapir Gao said on Tuesday, adding that the Congress has been leveling baseless allegations as the party is not winning any seat either in Lok Sabh or Assembly.
Moreover, he complained that three PBs of Palin Assembly seat were also damaged by BJP supporters while money ruled the roost with an incumbent chief engineer pushing in huge money for the BJP candidate. All officials directly involved in election should be suspended and investigation against them conducted particularly the source of such huge money. The seizure of Rs 1.8 crore from chief minister motorcade and Rs one crore from West Lok Sabha seat BJP candidate Tapir Gao reflected open demonstration of money and muscle power by the ruling BJP, he alleged.
