ITANAGAR, Apr 16: On withdrawal of security coverage of Home Minister Kumar Waii, presently a NPP candidate from Bameng Assembly seat, he said that was repetition of withdrawal of security coverage of high profile former chief Nabam Tuki from Z plus to Y class. The security coverage is decided by a committee headed by chief secretary Satya Gopal and DGP S BK Singh. But such sudden decision during sensitive election process would expose them to security threat, he said, and alleged that the CS was acting as a pawn of present ulta pulta Govt which could have serious consequences. “The CS even does not respond to telephonic call of large party president reflecting his attitude, it is better for him to leave the state before the results were out,” he cautioned.
In a shocking and cowardly incident, an assassination attempt was made on Waii April 11 night, his close quarter had claimed, adding the incident took place at midnight at a place around 8-km away from Seppa when Waii along with his two PSOs and driver were on returning home after casting his vote.
A group of around 100 armed men from the opposition party had blocked the road and ambushed his vehicle. The group armed with pistols and daos manhandled and assaulted the PSOs. This attempt came weeks after one NPP worker was mercilessly killed and another assaulted in Tirap district just ahead of election.
This assault on not only sparked anger and raised serious questions on democratic ideology of present BJP-led government, particularly withdraw of Waii’s escort and pilot hurriedly. Is violence the mantra for BJP’s democracy? What will happen after the BJP forms Govt, the source asked on behalf of Waii.
Expressed his shock over sudden by lowering his security coverage exposing him to security threat for which his car was attacked and damaged recently, Tuki on Mar 27 had said that this had never happened in the state and indicated inability of the present GoAP in tackling internal security though it is a state subject.
Responding to a question of MLA-cum-Koloring NPP candidate Pani Taram who had complained on April 11 that the BJP supporters had captured Damin town and Nampie and Nikoraing PBs and as to how a contractor was given two PSOs by present state Govt while contesting candidate each was given one PSO, Sanjoy said that his security coverage was also partially withdrawn but restored on his insistence. “This is thoughtless action of present BJP Govt,” he charged.
Meanwhile, former Kurung Kumey zilla parishad member Sangha Tagik, telephonically claimed on Monday that after normal voting for three hours in Langbang PB of Koloring Assembly seat, National People’s Party candidate Pani Taram supporters kidnapped the BJP agent, forced the voters to run away and damaged the EVM. When the AERO went to report, the same group managed another EVM, blocked the Koloriang road and conducted polling, damaged EVM of Nikoriang PB which remains untraced till now. Complaints have been lodged with the DEO against violation of election process and demanding repolling in those PBs and take against all perpetrators, he claimed. However, Taram had alleged that the BJP candidate supporter’s PSO had resorted to rigging election process in Koloraing which was unfortunate and uncalled for.
