ITANAGAR, Apr 29: Tension mounted in Kurung Kumey district HQs Koloriang on Monday after a group of protesters, mostly women, attacked SP office there demanding immediate arrest of killer of Papu village GB Bengia Tamang near Taba Village under circle on April 25 last.
Infuriated over inordinate delay and lackadaisical attitude of the police, particularly SP, the agitators demanded also demanded suspension of SP, sources told this daily from Koloriang. The protesters went wild later and shouting slogans against the SP broke into his office and ransacked, office furniture, computers and racks etc, the sources said.
They also marched towards DC Santosh Kumar Rai office and locked down the main entrance gate. The protestors earlier were not allowing employees to enter the gate but later gave passage facilitating them to join office.
Confirming that protesters were demanding early arrest of culprit, DC Santosh Kumar Rai, when contacted, said that grievances of victim’s relatives were patiently heard and they were assured of early arrest.
Bengia Welfare Society, in a representation to DC on April 26 last, had placed the same demand.
Meanwhile, a bundle of gelatin sticks was recovered from Koloriang helipad on Sunday morning, police sources said, adding though intention of was yet not known., but helicopters transporting EVMs after re-polling could be presumed as the target.
Sporadic poll related violence was witnessed in this district since announcement of election. A Mahindra Xylo on for election duty was burnt down between Kurung bridge point and Parsi Parlo road by miscreants on Sunday.
According to election nodal officer IGP Sunil Garg that the PHQ has been in constant touch with district administration and police as a DIG and senior police officers are camping there to monitor the situation. Moreover, additional force has been dispatched and the situation is under control now.
On demand of the agitators, he said that a special police team formed after registration of a case has spread dragnet in search of the suspected culprit, who will be nabbed soon.
Meanwhile, Palin BJP candidate Balo Raja supporters have urged the CEO to ensure full proof security of EVMs of Kurung Kumey and Kra Daadi district at Koloriang.
