Training on handmade paper held

TAWANG, Apr 30: A 30-day skill development training for 60 unemployed youths (30 each from Bongkhar and Mogto circle) were selected for the training on traditional paper making under BADP 2018-19 concluded at Langaiteng (Shakang Rong) Mogto circle on Tuesday.

Organised by NGO Yuva Arunachal since March 6 in collaboration with district industries centre as few Mogto villagers were still continuing this family tradition. Two master trainers and two assistant trainers trained these selected youths, however due to declaration of general elections the training was stopped for few days and resumed after the polls.

Speaking on the closing day of training, District planning officer Sangha Babung and ADI Tsering Drema, in their addresses, told the trainees that starting business initially will be little difficult but door selling and brining awareness among the people about local handmade will definitely yield  success.

YUVA Arunachal representatives appreciated the trainees for their interest in paper making and others for their support before the trainees were given certificates.

Monpa tribe, known for making handmade papers since time immemorial, prepare it from bark of a plant called Daphne Papyracea or Shugu sheng in local dialect.  But this traditional art is slowly dying with passage of time for which the training was conducted to keep this traditional knowledge alive.
