  • Repeated fire mishaps raise eyebrows

From Our Correspondent

PASIGHAT, May 11: Thirty-four of shops daily market here were devoured by a massive fire broke out around 1 AM on Saturday.

Nothing could be saved from the inferno as the fire mishap occurred when all were fast asleep, the shop owners said. However, fire tenders from Pasighat Fire Station and from Pasighat Airport reached the spot to contain the fire from spreading further .

The cause of the fire is not known yet, but ADC Tatdo Borang suspected it could be due to electrical short circuit, saying it would be known after proper

investigation. However, he said that power department EE during a recent meeting had objected for blaming it for almost all the fire accidents.

The  burnt shops were built with  Govt fund where electrical short circuit is unlikely, district disaster management officer G. Tsumo said, adding steps are being taken to grant immediate relief.

Repeated fire incidents in this district HQs town have raised many eyebrows while some intellectual suspect involvement of some vested interest behind such mishaps to get land allotment or seek compensation.
