34 units blood donation marks World Blood Donor Day-2019

ITANAGAR, June 14: Thirty-four units blood were donated voluntarily to mark World Blood Donor Day-2019 celebration, themed “Safe blood for all”, organized by State Blood Transfusion  Council (SBTC) in collaboration with Arunachal Voluntary Blood Donors Organisation (AVBDO), a unit of Arunachal Vivekananda Yuva Shakti (AVYS) and I Love Arunachal (ILA) here on Friday.

The donors included Arunachal Pradesh Legal Service Authority chairman judge Budi Habung, Itanagar SDPO Dekio Gumja, ILA chairman Regon Naji, RKM Nursing School students Topi Babla, Yame Pakba, Rorri Doni, Mudang Yaniyo & Punyo Dining and CRPF personnel, but AVYS founder-chairman Ramesh Jeke Tatung inked a record by donating blood for 54th time. An eight-member RKMH team led by Dr Bhaskar and Dr Yaming Phassang conducted the blood donation camp.

“It is a great opportunity to convey gratitude to faceless life savers by donating blood”, said health and family welfare secretary Juhi Mukherjee, and termed AVYS founder-chairman Ramesh Jeke Tatung as a role model to serve as great source of inspiration though his selfless service. It would be true salutation to him by following his footsteps, she said with conviction.

The GoAP would take steps to make all blood banks across the state functional; she said and sought support of all stake holders in save life mission. Haemophilia-Thalessemia (inherited genetic blood disorder characterized by less hemoglobin) day care centre will open in TRIHMS soon, she informed.

“No one came to blood bank to donate blood voluntarily, you are the first one,” – was the comment of blood bank staff, said Ramesh, who had donated blood first at the age of 16 in 2007.

Recalling his past experience about death of a child before his eyes in hospital for want of blood had changed his life to set up AVYS to promote voluntary donation. Numerous hurdles could not deter him and he continued with determination to launch ‘Save life mission’ by forming AVYS on 26.11.08 that had facilitated rising number blood donors for the state Govt to  receive Award of Excellence from Union Health Ministry in 2016.

Citing examples of donating blood to save many lives, particularly by CRPF, ITBP and NDRF personnel, he made a fervent appeal to all to adopt the same attitude as the earth with human beings has no meaning without humanity.

Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) project director Dr Riken Rina, TRIHMS blood bank officer Dr Passang Sona, SBTC deputy director Dr Nabam Budh, Itanagar Buddhist Cultural Society, Capital Complex Dree Festival Committee, STEP, judge Habung) and Naji were felicitated by SBTC on behalf GoAP for their invaluable contributions to promote blood donation.

Besides melodious rendering by Minam Goi, AVYS chief adviser Pradeep Kumar recited his self composed multi lingual song Arunchal ki Santan to be applauded by the gathering, including students of RKM Nursing School (23), Don Bosco School (15 each boys & girls) led by teacher Tamang Budhavir and 16 personnel of 138 Bn CRPF led by commandant Harish Chandra .

A panel discussion on ‘Voluntary blood donation’ participated by Dr Nabam Budh,  Ramesh Jeke and blood recipient Geto Gomdir was organized on Thursday with SBTC state blood council state coordination officer Chongneithem Lhouvum as anchor.

18 unites collected at Tawang

Tawang DIPRO adds: Eighteen units of blood were collected through hundreds of donors registered during the event at old Market here, organized by Environmental Protection Society in collaboration with Khadro Drowa Tsangmu district Hospital.

DMO Dr.Wangdi Lama exhorted all to continue their noble gesture while blood bank officer Dr. Tenzin Gyaltsen highlighted benefits of blood donation.
