Minor girl downs to death in Dikrong River

ITANAGAR, Aug 29: A nine-year-old girl had drowned while taking bathing with her friend in Dikrong River near SRPL colony in Chandannagar here on Thursday, police said.

The deceased was identified as Anga Ekka, d/o Tamar Ekke of Ekke village under Daporijo district, currently living in Chandranagar Forest Colony.

Capital SP Tumme Amo said that the deceased had gone for bathing with her friend Lindum Meku, but unfortunately was drowned.

The deceased disappeared from river at around 1.30 pm, Meku said in her statement, adding she returned to home thinking that she might have been joking and hiding, the SP said, adding that information about a body floating in Dikrong River was received at around 1.45 pm.

“On receiving the information, Itanagar police station duty officer SI N. Nishant, OC WPS inspector P Taku along with others rushed to the spot and reaching learnt that the body was taken up to RKMH by her local guardian Kabga Ekke (uncle). The team reached RKMH and conducted inquest in presence of Executive Magistrate,” Amo said, adding a UD case has been registered with Itanagar PS.
