ITANAGAR, Sept 10: Six apartments including a SPT and 24 compartments of two OBT buildings were completely gutted but without any loss of life in a devastating fire mishap caused by explosion of five cylinders in Ganga village startling all city dwellers on Tuesday evening.
On receipt of a phone call at around 6.10 pm, a fire tender rushed through busy city road to reach the spot immediately, said Itanagar fire station officer Koj Taro. The team saw huge ablaze emerging from the OBT and SPT buildings when another fire tender reached. Fire fighters, assisted by capital police, CRPF 138 Bn personnel and locals of the area, fought tirelessly as several cylinders got blasted but contained the inferno from spreading further.
Almost all occupants are daily wage earner and students and their household belongings, books and other items turned into ashes, Taro said, adding the cause of fire is yet not known but under investigation.
Officers of nearby nakas & PCRs and CRPF 138 Bn jawans of Senki View had rushed to the spot, Capital SP Tumme Amo said, adding Itanagar PS emergency duty officer ASI AK Jha and Amo with PS 2/IC L/Insp M Mibang had reached to assist/supervise fire fighting operation.
