TEZU, Sept 10: Dibang Valley topped in suicide cases in Arunachal Pradesh earlier but Lohit now is recording such cases as suicide report surfaces every other day, Tirap district JMFC-cum-civil judge Amanso Chai Sheristadar said and termed it as a matter of serious concern.
Addressing function to observe World Suicide Prevention Day, themed ‘Working together to prevent suicide’, in zonal general hospital here on Tuesday, he said “We together need collective approach to deal with this menace to avoid loss of precious lives”.
Assistant commissioner Sunny Singh said that every suicide death is a tragedy for family, friends and colleagues. But suicides are preventable, he said, adding “We should help counsel and approach psychiatric to get rid of such tendency. Life is precious we need to face every challenges and learn to win”, he said with conviction.
DPO Dr S Towang, DMO in-charge Dr SM Singh, medical superintendent Dr C Tayang highlighted various reasons for suicide and its remedial measures. BK Jayanti of Brahmakumaris suggested spirituality, most effective preventive way, to moulds one’s life towards positivity.
As the event, organized by District Mental Health Society, aimed at raising mass awareness on suicide and role of each member of Lohit society to prevent it, various speakers said that suicide is a mantle disease caused by multiple factors, primarily due to breakdown of love affair, especially among youth, socio-economic condition, addiction, family dispute and stresses, psychological or behavior failure etc and suggested preventive steps.
A skit presentation on the issue marked the day to sensitize the gathering and KBM and Tamlanagar school were adjudged first and second. Earlier, literary competition among the students of various schools was also conducted as part of observation and winners were awarded. while was also Doctors and staffs, teachers, parents, NGOs, CALSOM & AMSU members and student, who were present observed two-minute silence to pay homage to those who committed suicide.
