- Defending champ beat RGURSF by 4-0 in 4th USL
RONO HILLS, Oct 12: “Our youth have the potential to represent nation because football is in our spirit. We only have to tap it and guide them in the right direction for which Arunachal Pradesh Football Association (APFA) has taken steps on changing the dynamics of football in the state”, said APFA) honorary secretary Kipa Ajay.
In his inaugural address to 4th edition of University Soccer League (USL) at RGU’s general ground here on Friday, he lauded RGU fraternity for helping football to grow as a popular sport in the state. Pointing out that events, like USL, are positive signs to promote sports, he urged the organizers to continue holding this event to promote football in higher education institutes. The state-of-art infrastructures will come up soon in the state to help budding sportspersons to hone up their skills, he said.
Encouraging players to give their best, he exhorted them to avail the opportunity to learn from their fellow players as sports create friendship breaking all barriers. Informing that Football Federation is conducting super league soon, he urged RGU students to take part in it. He assured the organizers to provide 10 footballs and a set of goal nets for next USL edition.
State unit Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh president Yasi Nalo Sonam, speaking as guest of honor, congratulated RGU for organizing the event, saying such tournament will help youth to explore and showcase their talent. She also appreciated perseverance of the players as heavy downpour failed to dampen their spirit. OCRGU chairman Dr. Gibji Nimasow spoke earlier.
Defending champion, Bachelors of Physical Education department defeated RGU Research Scholars’ Forum (RGURSF) by 4-0 in the opening match. Eighteen teams from within the campus are taking part in the annual event, jointly organized by Officers Club RGU, RGU Students’ Union, RGU Research Scholars’ Forum, RGU Teachers’ Association, EGU Employees’ Association and Alumni Association RGU to conclude on October 22 next. ,. Tournament convenor Dr. Sambhu Prasad administered the oath to the players.
