SIC arrests 2 education officials for malpractice

ITANAGAR, Jan 28: Two official of state’s education department were arrested by Arunachal Pradesh Police (APP) special investigation cell (SIC) on malpractices charge here on Monday evening, according to   SP (SIC)M Harsha Vardhan.

The SIC was investigating a regular case registered against education department regarding implementation of several flagship schemes in Kamle district, SIC Chief Harsha Vardhan said, adding the then Kamle DDSE Likha Togur and JE Pani Jubi were arrested and both were sent to seven-day police custody on being produced in the court.

There were several complaints of gross malpractice and irregularities in implementation of central and state sponsored schemes, particularly CMSSY fund under ISSE Samagrah Shiksha, students’ stipend, Mid-Day Meal, Girls Hygiene Scheme (sanitary napkin) under CMFP worth crores he said, adding a case (No 12/19 u/s 468, 467, 420, 409, 471, 120B, r/w-13 (2) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988) was registered with crime branch police station here.

Evidences were found during probe as fake completion certificate was given to draw payment without proper work implementation, he said. However, the exact amount of misappropriation cannot be ascertained now as the case is still under investigation to look for more documentary evidences, he said.

Asked about possibility of more arrest, he said it cannot be told of hand.

It may be recalled that All Kamle District Students’ Union (AKDSU) had staged 48-hour district bandh demanding arrest of several officers and officials accusing them of siphoning of GoAP fund meant infrastructure development and welfare of students. Its 72-hour district bandh was called off due to intervention of then education secretary. (
