APSEM could be a turning point for Arunachal: CM

ITANAGAR, Jan 30: Chief Minister Pema Khandu lauded the initiative to conceive first ever two-day Arunachal Pradesh Social Entrepreneurship Meet (APSEM)-2020 to usher in an environment of social innovation & entrepreneurship in the state.

This being first of its kind in the country should prove to be a turning point for the state, Khandu said in his inaugural address at DK Auditorium of state assembly here on Thursday..

“This should kick-start the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to achieve a 5 trillion economy in coming years,” he said, adding that this meet is a platform to connect all start-ups across India working in social sectors to work together with the GoAP to promote sustainable development.

While development on all fronts is a must, the social sectors should also be taken care of, he said with assertion, and exhorted the entrepreneurs to focus on social sectors, to take up health and education projects for improvement. This is the best platform for local entrepreneurs to innovate new ideas and share to shape state future, he said.

The GoAP will not tolerate or allow red-tapism and facilitate entrepreneurs to successfully implement projects and invest in the state, he assured and announced to  go the extra mile in enabling a conducive atmosphere for entrepreneurships and investments.

“Please come forward and convert your ideas into something which you would be proud of and in the process help in state building,” he appealed but reminded that development should not be at the cost of environment and nature.

The state due to its remoteness and unique cultural diversity has its own challenges which require customized/local solutions. The investment in the state therefore needs innovativeness and an ability to understand the social fabric, which can be possible if there is an additional intent to create products or deliver services which benefit the society at large, he said.

He categorically cited agriculture, horticulture, tourism, textiles & handicrafts sectors which need to be leveraged for the benefits to percolate down to the farmers, weavers, artisans, tour guides etc. who despite their hard work and skills are still unable to get the right value for their products and services.

“I would urge the entrepreneurs to find solution to the problems we face in agriculture and allied sectors particularly demand aggregation and poor market linkages,” he said.

The GoAP is encouraging creation of farmers producers organizations, livestock cooperatives, fisheries & sericulture cooperatives etc. under the Chief Minister’s Krishi SamuhYojanaand linking them with markets to protect interests of farmers, he informed.

“Social entrepreneurs can play a major role to supplement these efforts of the GoAP in doubling farmers; income by 2022,” he said.

On the upcoming Mega Food Park at Banderdewahe said it would provide a fillip to food processing sector, he said and urged budding entrepreneurs to explore investment in agri-tech sector to boost crop productivity.

“We have stressed on attracting investment through creation of a conducive business environment for entrepreneurs and industries. The cabinet has recently approved Arunachal Pradesh Industrial and Investment Policy, which aims at incentivizing entrepreneurs while providing necessary hand holding for investing in the state,” he disclosed.

In all 111 Pan India applications were received for Social Innovation Competition (SIC) under– ‘Enterprise’ for registered social enterprise and ‘Ideation’ for aspiring entrepreneurs with tested ideas. Enterprises from different states of health tech, education and skill development, Handicrafts & textiles, tourism & hospitality, agriculture, food processing & forestry, renewable & clean energy in sectors are attending the meet.

The APSEM aims to provide an opportunity for young social entrepreneurs from across India to start up and invest in the state which could be achieved by building a platform for knowledge sharing among social innovators within and outside the state and by identifying & supporting social entrepreneurs.

The events include a SIC aimed at attracting best ideas and early stage enterprises in India.
