Speed up hydropower projects to solve national crisis: Singh

ITANAGAR, Jan 30: Hydropower projects worth Rs. 20,200 crore have been sanctioned for Arunachal Pradesh which should be developed to solve power crisis of the country Union MoS for & Skill Development & Entrepreneurship R.K. Singh Singh.

While addressing a power sector review meeting attended by representatives of various PSUs and GoAP stakeholders to expedite ongoing hydropower projects, convened by Chief Minister Pema Khandu at Civil Secretariat here on Thursday, he asked the GoAP and the PSUs to work in tandem to ensure that all projects in various stages are completed on time. Announcing regular monitoring of those projects, he sought cooperation of the GoAP in ensuring clearance of the projects pending with various departments.

Lok Sabha member Tapir Gao, NEEPCO & CMD NHPC CMDs, chief secretary Naresh Kumar and senior officers, among others, were present.

Exploit hydropower potential: Guv

Singh also called on Governor Brig. (Retd) B.D. Mishra at Raj Bhawan here, who stressed on exploiting state’s vast hydropower potential to benefit India.    Emphasizing on solar energy projects in remote and far-flung areas which would promote living condition of the people, Dr Mishra said that such projects would check migration of border area inhabitants to urban areas in search of greener pasture. He also requested for skill development and entrepreneurship centres to impart innovative training to youth along with traditional expertise.

Such initiative will encourage entrepreneurship and self employment, preserve and protect traditional arts and crafts, Dr Mishra reasoned.

Singh, accompanied by Hydropower Ministry’s joint secretary Anirudha Kumar, consented to provide necessary assistance for new ventures covering power, new & renewable energy, skill development and entrepreneurship. (PROs)
