AIR to launch 4 24×7 news channels: Joshi

NEW DELHI, Feb 13: The AIR’s news service division (NSD) has started many new initiatives in last two years making radio an important source of information, said AIR NSD principal director general Ira Joshi, adding four new 24×7 FM Gold news and current affairs channels in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai will soon start.

In her address to two-day national conference of regional news units (RNUs) of NSD, which began here on Thursday coinciding with World Radio Day, she said that AIR can perform better only when every RNU contributes to its full strength.

She urged all to share their ideas, challenges and help each other to find solution for better functioning. Exhorting them to be interactive, she congratulated lauded them for their contribution to transform radio into a powerful medium to disseminate news.

The RNUs have taken AIR a new height, said Additional director general Akash Laxman, adding the outcome of discussion on various issues will help adopt best practices of different RNUs.

Launching 24X7 four news channels would be a milestone, said ADG Dr. Atul Tiwari, adding the conference will help prepare a roadmap by sharing of ideas and experiences.

ADG JP Mattu Singh said that the AIR has been broadcasting various programmes through You Tube on a trial basis to achieve the set target. She urged all to take steps to complete this daunting task.

Content for four FM channels, operationalization of regional language website of NSD, regional & state specific content and integrated feedback platform will be deliberated during the conference.

The services of regional outreach bureau and field outreach bureau officers can be used for getting voices from people even in  remotest part of the country, said  DG (BOC) Satyendra Prakash while DG (DD News) Mayank Kumar Agrawal said that steps will be taken for better synergy and development of a common news pool for both DD News & AIR. Principal DG (PIB) K S Dhatwalia commended the accessibility and outreach of AIR News through various social media platforms. The synergy of PIB, AIR & DD News should be utilized for better dissemination of news across the country, he added.

Best practices and new initiatives of RNUs and operationalization of new 24X7 channels were discussed today including deliberations of Prasar Bharti’s Samir Kumar and Hindustan Samachar senior journalists while the logo of AIR News  will be unveiled on Friday, according to an AIR release.
