ITANAGAR, May 31: Likabali ADC Sode Potom, who was posted in same capacity at Hayuliang, and one Cholingso Kora, a resident of Anjaw district, were arrested by vigilance special investigation cell (SIC) on Saturday in connection with alleged involvement in a multi-crore land compensation scam for Chaglagam to Rocham stretch of road in Anjaw district.
It is allege that only Rs 2.21 crore of sanctioned Rs 24 crore reached the targeted beneficiaries, officials said.
Both on Sunday were produced in the court at Tezu which remanded them to three-day police custody for further investigation, SIC superintendent of police Mandava Harsha Vardhan said in a release, adding the probe was on.
It may be mentioned here that Defence Ministry in 2014 sanctioned an ambitious 9.5-km- road connecting remote Chaglagam village to Rocham in Anjaw district to strengthen the forward areas in Arunachal Pradesh, officials said.
The Border Roads Organisation, the executing agency, in 2017 carried out a land acquisition survey in a 3-km stretch of the proposed road and Rs 24 crore was sanctioned as compensation to be paid to landowners. However, the beneficiaries had received only Rs 2.21 crore and the remaining portion was allegedly siphoned off.
A group of people obtained power of attorney from the beneficiaries by misguiding them, officials said, adding that the two accused were named by the landowners.
Anjaw DC Dagbom Riba said that Potom’s name also cropped up after it was found out that the compensation amount was transferred by the BRO to the ADC’s bank account, instead of that of the DC.
“The arrests were made after monetary trails were uncovered by the SIC during investigations,” Vardhan said, adding an FIR (10/20) was filed with SIC.
