NAHARLAGUN, Jun 30: Two very senior officers and a duftry peon of health department were given a warm send off in directorate complex here on Tuesday in a meeting chaired by health director Dr Moromor Lego.
They included family welfare director Dr. Allok Yirang & deputy director Dr. Chow Jeamaw Mongmaw and duftry Pake Doni.
Reciprocating elegisation about the trio, family welfare director credited all achievements of the department to team work since he marched on foot to toughest outpost Koyu in then Siang district to join as junior medical officer on 18.11.83.
“I tried to develop repo right from reporting officer (ADC/DC) to director and chief secretary that always came handy later for achieving any success as I always considered this as my department,” he said adding that all decisions of the officers should always be favouable to the employees instead of twisting the governing rules.
Pointing out that shortage of doctors in universal, he regretted that the state Govt did not extend the retirement age of doctors. The general duty medical officers (GDMO) after long experience get promoted to specialist rank and their retirement, like Dr Mari Riba (surgical specialist) and Dr T Zirdo (pediatrician), have created a vacuum.
The 50-seater TRIMHS would produce doctors after five years, who would go for higher studies for which shortage of GDMOs and specialists would continue for about a decade as outsiders would not come to serve in this state known for communication hazard and climatic diversity.
He also regretted lack of service rules even 34 years after attaining statehood but advocated boldness to taking decisions as per rules.
Dr Yirang, born on 18.06.58, obtained MBBS in 1983 from Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh. After serving at Tezu, Roing & Anini as GDMO, medical superintendent and DMO respectively; DMO Upper Siang, East Siang, Dibang Valley and Lower Dibang valley, he was posted here on 14.06.14 as joint director (NVBDCP & establishment), became additional director and director and continued till his superannuation.
Dr. Mongmaw, who born on 23.06.58, did his MBBS from SCBMedical College, Cuttack in 1987 and joined service on 07.09.87, thanked for their wishes.
After serving in various places like Tezu, Walong, Lathaw, Ziro and Lathaw before being promoted FW deputy director in September 2016 and continued till his retirement.
Doni of Daporijo, who had joined on 30.11.1980 as stretcher bearer was promoted as peon on 01.06.80 and duftry on 30.10.96 and continued till retired.
Director Lego recalled valuable services of the trio to the people through the department which would never be forgotten. He wished them a happy retirement life like many others.
Many others, including joint director Dr Emi Rumi, in their addresses recalled their services. They described Dr Yirang as ‘down to earth without any ego’. The occasion turned emotional when Arunachal Registered Pharmaceutical Association president Nabam Yahing (Nanung) recalled how Dr Yirang facilitated uniform allowance to all pharmacists a year ago with tears rolling down her cheeks.
Food cell hear UK Mitra lauded Doni for his service with commitment and honesty, particularly in carrying files to and fro Naharlagun to Itanagar in lone Joymoti bus plying from North Lakhimour to Itanagar in mid 80’s without which the department could not have achieved anything.
However, Doni, when asked, said “I grew old while brining salaries of all staffs from the bank”.
The function was attended by officers and staffs of DFW and DHS and chaired by health director Dr Moromor Lego.
