Panchayati and Municipal Acts & Rules | SEC Kojeen nods to observers’ suggestion for amendment

ITANAGAR, Dec 30: Thorough examinations of Panchayat & Municipal Act and Rules to amend wherever required, periodic training of election related officers & officials, restructuring of staffing pattern in State Election Commission (SEC), set up proper state of the art infrastructure for the SEC in conformity to its high constitutional status at par with ECI – were few important feedbacks given by the observers.

State Election Commissioner Hage Kojeen, in his response, consented to the need for various amendments to Panchayati and Municipal Acts and Rules, during de-briefing at Dorjee Khandu Convention Hall here on Wednesday.

Senior officers of the rank of joint secretary and above were appointed as observers for polls to local bodies who shouldered their responsibilities with utmost dedication leading to conduct of by and large free, fair and peaceful elections to Panchayati Raj and municipalities, he said.

The simultaneous polls are almost over except for 4-Hawai North ZPC in Anjaw district where polling will take place on January 11 and one ZPC at Vijaynagar. Another 114 GPCs now falling vacant due to various reasons will be taken up for election in the next phase.

Earlier, secretary Nyali Ete had sought feedbacks from observers based on their experiences to improve the mechanism.

Many observers suggested that their feedbacks be forwarded to the state Govt. for needful action.
