Union MoS Kataria assures water management policy for Arunachal

PASIGHAT, Dec 30:  Union MoS for Jal Shakti & Social Justice Ratan Lal Kataria on Wednesday assured a proper water management policy for Arunachal Pradesh and fund provision for flood protection to combat the annual monsoon woes faced due to the rampaging Mighty Siang.

Addressing an awareness function of Brahmaputra Aamantran Abhiyan (BAA) at College of Horticulture & Forestry here on Wednesday, he made a fervent call to all  to promote  & readopt  concept of  ‘Living with the river’ for sustainable living, rejuvenation & revival of rivers, protection of ecosystem and water qualityas rivers have played a significant role in growth of human civilizations.

The Har Ghar Nal Yojana 2020 under Jal  Jeevan Mission aims at ensuring  water supply to every household of the country by 2024 while various welfare measures, like scholarship for ST/SC students and senior citizens, programme to fight drug abuse are being given by Union  Ministry of Social Justice, he said.

Kataria, who felicitated winners of various competitions, organized as part of the BAA to spread awareness, said that the event would help in formulation of water rejuvenation policy.

He was addressing an awareness function of the BAA at College of Horticulture & Forestry here, which was by   MLAs Lombo Tayeng, Ninong Ering &  Kaling Moyong, DC Dr.Kinny Singh, SP Rajiv Ranjan Singh, WRD CE Getom Borang, Brahmaputra Board secretary V.D. Roy and ABK (youth wing) presiden Joluk Minung. attended

MLAs Lombo Tayeng, Ninong Ering, and Kaling Moyong earlier apprised Kataria about the annual monsoon woes caused by the mighty Siang on an unprecedented scale. The tributaries, like Sibo Korong & Remi also cause flooding every monsoon, they said, They also submitted memorandums to the the minister who arrived here on Tuesday.

Tourism secretary Sadhana Deori said that the BAA also showcases responsible & eco-tourism of the state.

Kataria also visited Komlighat where DC Dr. Kinny Singh, WRD CE Getom Borang and EE Gonong Pertin, presented a detailed design & plan for flood protection of Pasighat & adjoining areas. .

Pertin also briefed about flood control structure built in 2000 has outlived its time and totally deteriorated now for which a permanent improved structure I needed. (DIPRO)
