Arunachal model ‘East Meets West’ selected for 72nd R-Day celebration

NAHARLAGUN, Jan 12: The Defence Ministry has chosen Arunachal Pradesh model – East Meets West – to take part in 72nd Republic Day celebration in New Delhi.

This has added yet another feather in the cap of Information and Public Relations department for state’s selection in eight screening rounds of models of 28 states, UTs and various PSUs but expert committee of Defence Ministry finally approved Arunachal model.

The theme ‘East Meets West’ will depict vibrant cultural heritage of Wangcho communities inhabiting eastern parts of the state along with the famed Chagzam Bridge, built more than 400 years ago in Tawang district by Lama Chagzam Wangpo over gurgling Tawangcho River near Mukto village.

The tableau will present a blend of two great cultural heritages amidst a backdrop of a historic bridge. This would be among 16 selected models.

It may be recalled that Arunachal Pradesh won best presentation trophy in 2017 and second prize in cultural competition in 2019, reached the final round in 2020 but could not make it due to certain technical issue of music.

Besides Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Assam and Tripura have been selected from NE to showcase their tableaus.
