DOIMUKH, Apr 08: “Our culture and traditions are our which should be preserved for posterity least we lose our identity,” Central Longte committee (CLC) vice chairman Sangha Tagik said on Thursday.
Addressing inaugural ceremony of maiden Longte festival celebration as a special guest, Tagik regretted that western culture has been diverting the younger generations from this time-tested practices which poses serious threat to tribal identity. This could be checked only by the parents and senior members of the society by encouraging them to toe the tribal roots, he said.
Longte is the festival of largest tribe of state (Nyishi) which aims at greater wellbeing of the humanity but the only bloodless festival of the state, he informed.
CLC AGS Tadar Zaman spoke on the genesis and activities of the celebration as a resource person.
Papum Pare Longte Celebration Committee chairman Tadar Niki, GS Yab Lotus, event in-charge Pisa Tabin, among others, also spoke. This was followed by games and sporting events.
