BRO holds road safety campaign  to check India’s rising accidents

TEZPUR, Jan 12: As India accounts for 11% of global death in road accidents, the Border Roads Organizations (BRO) toeing ‘your safety is your family safety’ mantra conducted road safety awareness campaign to improve safety and reduce road accident casualties by involving the masses upto grassroots level to achieve the goal across India.

BRO’s Project VARTAK team led by chief engineer (P) Col Ajay Bhandari conducted such awareness here on Wednesday as part of Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav. The team exhorted all road users to strictly follow traffic rules and advocated alertness while driving and adopt safety measures, like using helmets and seat belts, to not use of mobile phone while driving, especially the youngsters who drive   bikes more vulnerable to accidents.

Leaflets/broachers on road safety and short quizzes on road safety were distributed to commuters, who showed keen interest and lauded the BRO for its initiative.

Vartak Model School students took part in a painting and drawing competition to gain knowledge about road safety steps. Road signs and safety measures were also demonstrated to them.

Besides workshops, a medical check-up part of the event not only benefitted the civilians but also strengthened the forces-civilians bonhomie, Col Bhandari, said in a statement.
