India’s Omicron tally 4,461, NE spared except Manipur

ITANAGAR, Jan 12: The Omicron tally in India has reached 4,461 on Wednesday with Maharashtra topping the list with 1,247 cases, followed by Rajasthan (645) and Delhi (546). However, India on Tuesday reported 1,68,063 new COVID-19 cases, 277 deaths, active count reached 8,21,446 and daily positivity rate stood at 10.64%, Union Ministry of Health data showed.

It may be noted here that at least nine states and four UTs till January 3 were still spared of Omicron threat. Among the big states, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh haven’t reported any case, while almost all of NE states, barring Manipur (reported one case), are spared of the latest variant.

Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday recorded 134 new COVID-19 cases, highest single-day spike in January so far, taking the tally to 55,692, according to state surveillance officer Dr Lobsang Jampa.
