AR conducts security meet

KHONSA, Jun 29: The Khonsa battalion of Assam Rifles on Wednesday conducted a security and coordination meeting at Battalion Headquarters here, which was chaired by Commandant Col Amit Kumar Das.

Representatives of Tirap Police and district administration including circle officer Nekong Perme were present in the meeting which was attended by 70 people including, gaon burahs, rajas, representative of CBOs, student unions, TCLPF and Khonsa Bazar committee.

Addressing the gathering, Col Das apprised about the general situation in Tirap to the attendees.

Active involvement and cooperation of village authorities and all the organization were solicited to ensure unlawful activities of the insurgents including extortion, kidnapping, insurgent recruitment and other nefarious activities are further reduced for safety and security and also for peace to prevail.

The attendees were made to understand that timely information of insurgent’s movement is their responsibility so that decisive actions can be initiated in time.

The commandant thanked the villagers for sharing timely intelligence regarding underground movement which has resulted in a number of neutralization, apprehensions of hard core insurgents in the last two years.

During the meeting, the growing trends of protests against insurgents were enumerated and examples of protest in Tirap and Longding were given and the strength in unity of villagers was brought to the fore.

The various civic action initiative and employment opportunities available for the youth were apprised to the attendees and special emphasis was given on recently announced Agnipath Scheme by the Centre which, is going to give a big opportunity to youth of this area to join defense forces.

All the attendees expressed their unity against insurgency, extortion and abduction and also promised that they would not support insurgency and want peace in the district anymore, a press release informed here.
