YINGKIONG, Sep 22: The District Health Society (NTEP) of Upper Siang district conducted a health check-up camp cum mela on Thursday at District Hospital, under the banner of Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
The camp was launched by Upper Siang DMO Dr Moli Riba, in presence of all the health staffs of district hospital, district BJP President Gemin Jiji among others.
District TB Officer Dr Ahik Miyu, while highlighting the purpose of the health mela, expressed gratitude to Health & Family Welfare Minister Alo Libang and Geku-Mariyang MLA Kanggong Taku for adopting the health facilities under their respective constituencies for providing nutritional support to TB patients under the PM mission.
Libang adopted district hospital, CHC Tuting and CHC Jengging while Taku adopted CHC Geku, Mariyang, PHC Katan and Geying respectively to provide nutritional support to TB patients undergoing treatment.
During the event altogether 155 patients registered and activities like TB screening, sample collection of all the presumptive TB cases, general health check-ups, screening for non-communicable diseases wherein free blood sugar and blood pressure monitoring was done for all adult patients and free of cost including, all laboratory tests, ultrasonography and X-Ray.
Simultaneously, awareness activities on community support to TB patients, IEC materials pamphlets were distributed among the visitors to sensitize the people that TB is curable and there is need for collective effort to end stigma and discrimination to end the TB besides informing about available services under NTEP and financial incentives including Ni-khay Poshan Yojana were conducted during the camp.

DMO N Lowang highlighted about the importance of conducting twin program – launching of Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and health check-up mela informed that earlier on September 17 this year, Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was launched by President of India Draupadi Murmu virtually in presence of Union Health Minster and other dignitaries.
In his keynote address MOTC Dr P Monwangham enlightened about the objectives of the initiative under the programme.
In Tirap, registration for Nikshay Mitra has started in which 38 patients came for screening. Out of that three were sent for sputum test and all of them were reported negative. (DIPROs)
